Bodega Bamz: The Best Latino Rapper Since, Like, Big Pun, Or Immortal Technique, Or Something

This new New York thing is getting hectic. It seems every block has its own crew, offering up young, ambitious talent with rich potential, live projects, and tight visuals. The latest in my library is Bodega Bamz. In October, 2012, Bamz dropped Strictly 4 My P.A.P.I.Z., smooth and energetic, edged in some sidewalk shit with drug-infused rhyme schemes. The whole tape stays tied together by trappy, muscled beats, sparked by the occasional keyboard synth and horn loop to keep bouncing. The production on here is lively and truly melds the tape together, allowing Bamz to spit some laid-back, introspective, come-up shit (Last Of The Po’Ricans), along side trippy, drug-powered joints (THRILLA feat. Flatbush Zombies), and strong-willed, raw, New York (Requiem For A Dream-sampled) bangers (Say Amen feat. A$AP Ferg). Although, not sure how I feel about using Kanye’s All Of The Lights symphonic interlude to spit the final track over–over ambitious at best when fucking with Kanye beats.  Bodega Bamz is definitely doing some dope shit out of his own Spanish Harlem.

Oh, and this NAVY video just dropped last week:
