Wobble A Bit Further

Short post: a thread that’s somewhat disarming in the violent vibrato of four (!) vocalists in European synth-pop. Here are the examples:

  • WU LYF – Mancunian Ellery Roberts & co. absolutely slay it with a combination of unintelligible lyrics and wobbly vocals

Taken from their debut and, well, only album, Go Tell Fire To The Mountain. Buy it here and stream it here.

  • Holy Esque – Glaswegian band of few songs but shimmering emotion and wobbly vocals

Taken from their wildly limited EP, Holy Esque. They’ve a couple of other singles, too, and no word yet on a full-length. Buy it here and stream it here.

  • Wild Beasts – A wild bunch from northern England, this music sounds like it was bathed in sex and dried in luxury. Wobbly vocals abound

B-side from their single, Reach A Bit Further. Buy it here and stream it here.

  • When Saints Go Machine – Danish synthers jam on dark themes. There’s a Danish sensibility here – a very literal interpretation of English sardonics. Wobbly vocals – high-pitched, like Wild Beasts.

Eponymous lead track from their second album, Konkylie. Buy it here and stream it here.

Any more to add? I like this quality in vocalists – it strengthens lyrics (usually) with unusual depth.
